What has the Government done to raise funding for social care?
Communities Minister Sajid Javid has announced that councils are to be enabled to raise an additional £208m for social care from local taxation.
The cash is to be raised by allowing local authorities to increase the social care precept element of local taxation by up to 3% next year instead of the planned increase of 2%.
The decision may be seen by some as a U-turn. Policy analysts and campaigners appealed for an increase in either central funding or local taxes to this purpose before the autumn statement, but their calls were refused by the Chancellor of the Exchequer.
