What’s in the DH’s proposed NHS product information regulations?
The DH has revealed that suppliers could be required to comply with demanding new regulations on the information they are required to supply about products sold to the NHS.
If adopted, measures outlined in a consultation on the Health Service Products (Provision of Information and Disclosure) Regulations would:
- oblige manufacturers, importers and wholesalers to provide quarterly aggregated transaction information about unbranded generic medicines and special medicinal products
- require all parts of the supply chain to record transaction information about any health service product and provide this information on request
- enable the DH to demand information on request about the costs connected with manufacturing, distribution or supply of health service products by manufacturers and wholesalers.
- require manufacturers and wholesalers to provide information on volumes and prices about unbranded generic medicines and special medicinal products. This may be required at 24 hours’ notice
The consultation also outlines changes to the notification of discontinuations and supply disruptions of health service medicines.
The deadline for responses is 14 November 2017.
