Matt Hancock takes over as new Health and Social Care Secretary

Who is the new Health and Social Care Secretary Matt Hancock?

 

Matt Hancock, aged 39, read politics, philosophy and economics (PPE) at Oxford University and became MP for West Suffolk in 2010. He was previously Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Secretary and before that minister of state for digital.

 

Before becoming an MP, Mr Hunt worked for the Bank of England and for his family business. He is known as a keen supporter of the use and advance of technology and has supported mental health awareness week on social media.

 

Mr Hunt voted in favour of removing restrictions on how much income foundation trusts can generate from treating private patients.

 

Former Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt is now Foreign Secretary.
