Public back campaign to save community pharmacy in Northern Ireland

Is community pharmacy in Northern Ireland in peril?

More than 120,000 people in Northern Ireland have signed a petition to save community pharmacy, according to the trade body.

Community Pharmacy Northern Ireland said that the Department of Health could no longer ignore the volume of patients and organisations involved in the campaign.

The organisation warns that the current position of underfunding, and a model that sees many medicines prescribed at a loss, is unsustainable.

Before devolution collapsed last year, the then Health Minister Michelle O’Neill had committed to development of community pharmacy-based initiatives over the next 10 years. But Community Pharmacy Northern Ireland says this is now in jeopardy because of underfunding.
