Space age technology coming to NHS

Will technology be helpful for patient outcomes?

The UK Space Agency has said it will put up to £4m into finding hi-tech solutions for health and care problems facing the NHS in its 70th year.

The joint initiative with NHS England will allow innovators to bid for funding to turn technology originally designed for space into medical applications.

Areas to be tackled include mental health, earlier cancer diagnosis, managing long-term conditions and transforming GP services. A pill camera that can be swallowed was previously developed from space technology.
