Thank you for registering for our Healthcare Equity webinar

Thanks for registering to watch our live webinar from 22 May.  In addition to our own Wilmington Healthcare experts, we were very grateful to have Michelle Summers of NHS Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes as our special guest. Michelle underlined both the gravity of health inequalities as a national issue, and the determination of the NHS to address them, in all forthcoming plans and actions, and stressed that this was an ideal area for Industry to form partnerships with the health service.

We heard about issues in language and communication, translation, cultural competency, access, transport and trust – which are all areas where Industry can support the NHS for the benefit of patients. It’s in the interest of both sides to uncover, inform and bring onto pathways patients who have been excluded for social, economic, geographical, digital or other reasons.

Questions and answers from the webinar

Q: Are there any measures being taken to reach the communities that are more likely to be diagnosed with diabetes to prevent this, similar to the measures being taken to reach more patients who may have cancer?

A: Do read the Diabetes UK report and action plan for its ideas on pre-emptive screening in at-risk communities and prevention – and please reach out to Wilmington Healthcare if you wish to discuss this more.

Q: Prevention has come up a lot, what changes can we expect to drive vaccines across all communities to help with equity?

A: A lot of work is being done in parts of London to address communities not getting vaccinated- often involving local community pillars and faith leaders. Often these initiatives are about building trust, and putting forward community leaders as vaccine champions.
